I’ve developed a new theme “Ebony” for personal use. It’s based on Carbon theme.

Ebony Theme Main features:

1. Javascript Effects.

1) Thumbnail Reflection.
It likes Mac Gallery. Using this Js reflection effects you dont need to use imageframe.

2) Built in Lightbox using mootool javascript library.
It’s not famous prototype lightbox. It’s a mootools lightbox, which is smaller and better than prototype’s. The js file plus mootools lib file is about 54KB in total, the prototype lightbox is about 104KB. Also, using this lightbox you can click the thumbnail don’t need to wait the page loading completely.

3) Sliding Sidebar
A new Js file for mootools.

2. Seach engine friendly.

1). Page title changed to like this:
Gallery - Album - SubAlbum - Photo Name

2). Use h2, h3 tag in Photo name and link to photo page.

Browser Compatible:

Ebony is compatible and fully tested with IE 7, Firefox 2.0+, Opera 9.0+ and Safari 3.0+. It doesn’t work very well with IE6. There is a Js(PNG) problem and a css problem. It’s not very difficult to fix them. But I’ve been recently a bit busy. So currently I have no plan to do this. IE6 sucks.

Gallery Compatible:

It has been only tested with Gallery 2.2.4(I am currently running this version). But It maybe work with other 2.x versions, not tested.

Theme Download

There are three versions you can choose one.

1. English Version:

3. Chinese Traditional:
Please download Chinese simplified version above. Then download the icon set here:
http://www.tuwang.org/files/buttons.png
Use this png file to replace ebony/images/buttons.png file.

Installation

* After unbz2 the file, you’ll see there are two folders: themes and modules. The themes folder contains main Ebony theme, just upload it to your gallery theme folder. Modules folder contains some module templates. If you use those modules, you can upload them to your gallery’s corresponding module folder.

* The PSD files of logo and buttons included.

* Change the ad banner on the top.
Just edit /ebony/templates/ads.tpl, change the image file to yours. If you don’t want it, just remove the div content.

Next Release

1. Remove all tables, fully div + CSS structure.
2. Add more Js effects. (e.g., change the background color of photo page, Sliding MicroThumbnail View)
3. Remove unnecessary div tag in .tpl file.
4. Make CSS file more clear.

    A follow up from my prior post. It turns out for problem #1 was due to me not totally understanding the photo sizes listed and a potential bug in the admin->rebuild sizes and thumbnails.

    I had my sizes set to 1024 by 1024 and 3456 by 3456. If I didn’t do the admin rebuild thumbnails everything would work fine but if I used that feature the URL’s for each individual image were not quite right.

    Fantastic theme. I love it.

    I came across 2 problems though in its use.

    1. If you look at some of the photos under http://ntbone.homeip.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=86 for example, you will see the Sidebar kind of floats above the image. Seems like its not handling wide images.

    2. If you look in the guests section, the photos here come in the 1024 size and in the full resolution size. When I click on a photo to bring up the pop up it just hangs with the little animation.

    I intend to pursue looking into these issues myself. If you have any insight into the problems plese let me know. Thanks.

    How can i remove the lightbox and open the album in the details view once I click on the album thumbnail?

    This is one of the finest themes - can compete with PG easy….

    Is there a way to disable lightbox for pictures? Since slideshow is a slightly better interface, I want regular photo page to show up so that EXIF info can be viewed… etc.

    This is a superb theme and I have been trying to use it for my site. Here are a few things that I am not able to do. Any help would be appreciated
    I am trying to use the Ebony theme and there are a few modifications that I am trying to make
    1. Remove the banner (not the gallery logo) on top of the page
    2. Align the text in the footers
    3. Remove the “Details/Comments” link from the lightbox
    4. “Newest Photos”, “Most Viewed Photos” do not work. Dynamic Albums is installed and activated. Is there anything else to be done?
    and what does “Extra link for top navigation bar” do?
